Simultaneous River Clean Up

A total of 630 individuals actively participated during the River Clean Up at Sawaga River led by OIC, PENR Officer Vergilino P. Alima along with other officials and personnel of DENR PENRO Bukidnon last February 16, 2019. These individuals are coming from Bukidnon National High School (BNHS), Bukidnon State University (BukSU), PNP, BFP, AFP, Bukidnon Environment & Natural Resources Office (BENRO), City Environment & Natural Resources Office (ENRO), Barangays 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, Sumpong & Kalasungay, Velomer Agri-Business Corp.-Piggery, JM Farms, Malaybalay Polymedic Gen. Hospital, GAISANO Malaybalay, LAPANDAY, SAVE Sawaga Movement and other stakeholders.

During the preparation stage, the office identified the Sawaga River as the site for this activity. This river is one of the source of drinkable water that supplies the entirety of Malaybalay City. Six (6) stations were established during the reconnaissance survey (last February 9) to determine and record if there are a presence of wastes in the river.

Last February 13 & 14 an orientation/briefing conducted with a representative of government agencies, academe, private institutions, and stakeholders was held to guide harmonious conduct of this activity. Moreover, to identify the participants kind of assistance will be providing.

A total of 1,612.7 kilos of non-biodegradable garbage is collected from the six (6) stations of Sawaga River. This activity is in support of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu’s call to improve the water quality on all rivers in the country.
